Job Opportunity – ELECTRICIAN I

Public Works – Buildings Division; Salary:  $46,713.00. Deadline: June 12, 2015

This is a skilled trade position which involves the maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment.  Incumbents receive general instruction in regard to assignments and may be required to perform building maintenance tasks which are other than electrical in nature.  Considerable leeway is allowed as to the methods and procedures employed in the completion of assignments.  This class differs from that of Electrician II in that the II level includes a higher level of technical knowledge, supervision duties and responsibility for planning, coordinating and instruction.  The responsibilities of Electrician I are performed under the general supervision of a higher level employee.  Supervision may be exercised over helpers in electrical projects.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems and equipment; Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load continuity, and proper and safe operation of electrical circuits; Estimates electrical materials and costs; Troubleshoots electrical systems to locate shorts, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance, imbalance, or breaks using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter and ohmmeter.  Makes repairs to defective, loose, or corroded lines and connections; Performs electrical work connected with the maintenance and repair of heating and cooling systems; Performs general electrical work involved with alterations and remodeling; Troubleshoots and repairs computerized security, fire alarm and other control systems; Instructs and supervises maintenance personnel in routine electrical work; Keeps records of electrical activities; Performs general building maintenance tasks; Participates in snow and ice control activities; May be required to operate a motor vehicle in connection with assignments; Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four (4) years of experience in a position involving the performance of skilled electrical repairs, two (2) of which were unsupervised.

NOTE:  No less than two (2) years of the unsupervised experience will be accepted.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
A department may require the possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of appointment.

JUNIOR PLANNER
Dutchess County Planning Department

This is a provisional appointment pending a civil service examination.  This is an entry level position which involves work related to community, county and regional planning.  Incumbents gain experience in the performance of research, preparing reports and studies, and recommending solutions to planning problems.  The class differs from that of Planner in that this is an entry level position in which incumbents gain planning work experience, whereas Planner is a full performance position in which incumbents perform work of greater complexity with more independence.  Work is performed under direct supervision.  Supervision of others is not normally a function of this position.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists in and conducts studies involving research investigation and analysis of sociological, economic and environmental factors related to municipal, regional or community planning; Develops skills and techniques in preparing specialized planning projects such as land development, community development economic development, transportation, housing, water supplies and others; Receives training and functions with increasing independence in a variety of areas; Collects and analyzes data (including census data) in connection with work assignments; Gains skill and techniques in the planning and conducting of field studies and surveys; Reviews and makes recommendations on the more routine local zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations in compliance with statutory requirements; May meet with municipal planning boards, zoning boards, legislative bodies, and other public officials to advise on planning matters and make recommendations; May assist in the preparation of grant applications; Provides information to the public by telephone or in person; Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EITHER: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related field (e.g. urban studies, environmental sciences, civil engineering, geography, economics or transportation planning);
OR:     (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and one year of technical work experience in planning;
OR:     (C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State recognized college or university with an Associate’s degree and three (3) years of technical work experience in Planning;
OR:     (D) An equivalent combination of training and experience described in (A) and (B) above.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE MECHANIC III (HEATING & VENTILATING)

This is a provisional appointment pending a future civil service examination.  This position involves leadership and participation in the efficient performance of semi‑skilled and skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance and repair of building heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing systems.  The work is performed under general supervision of the Heating and Ventilating Supervisor.  Positions in this class are distinguished from Building Maintenance Mechanic II (Heating and Ventilating) by the responsibility for leading a small group in the unit’s projects and assignments.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Typical work activities for incumbents in this title include those listed below in addition to the work activities performed by lower level titles in this series. They are indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in this title.  It is not meant to be all inclusive and does not preclude a supervisor from assigning activities not listed which could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title.  Leads and participates in the performance of appropriate operating, adjustment, repair, maintenance and safety practices and procedures for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and plumbing equipment and systems; Plans details of work assignments and projects for a small group; Instructs a small group in the installation and repair of equipment; Leads and participates in a variety of other building maintenance activities; May be required to participate in snow and ice control activities; May be required to operate a motor vehicle in connection with assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four (4) years of paid work experience involving responsibility for the performance of building maintenance or construction trades, three (3) years of which primarily involved the maintenance and repair of heating and ventilating equipment.

Central Hudson – Engineering Technician – Position

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation is seeking highly motivated Engineering Technician to join our Transmission Design team at our Poughkeepsie, NY headquarters.

Responsibilities: The Transmission Design Engineering Technician will be responsible  for several support tasks in Transmission Design: updating capital project work plan spreadsheets, tracking Work Breakdown Structure (Plan versus Actual) for Capital Projects, developing and updating project plans, updating Monthly Project Status Reports for Major Projects, tracking and updating “Pro-Forma” estimates, updating and maintaining the productivity schedule and project planner (Liquid Planner), as well as maintaining vendor data sheets.  The Engineering Technician will also attend Monthly Project Meetings, take meeting minutes, and issue and track follow up items.  In addition, this person will support the preparation of construction packages in the following ways: preparing bid  packages in proper format, preparing Construction Packages for Contract and in-house construction crews, issuing specifications and RFQ’s for material procurements for capital projects, creating bills of materials and transmittals for capital projects, field inspections and project scoping assistance, preparing and updating Plan & Profile Drawings for completed projects, and assisting with project close out and filing.  The Transmission Design Engineering Technician will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Transmission Inspection database.  This will include preparing draft reports intended for planning future capital projects and submittal to outside agencies.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess the following: an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Sciences or a related field, a Bachelor’s degree is preferred; a minimum of 3 years related experience, basic mechanical and math skills, good verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Project, while showing the ability to learn additional software programs quickly.  The successful candidate must be self-motivated, display good problem solving skills and a strong attention to detail, and work as a team player. A valid driver’s license is required.
